Weekend update

Few tidbits from this week:

We had a few beach days this week.  Joey loves the sand but is afraid of the ocean waves. I can't blame him though - the ocean is big and powerful. I just wish he wouldn't eat the sand.

He loves the sand so much that he gets upset when it comes time to leave. That may sound cute but it can also be frustrating. What's undoubtedly cute is his fat-roll tan lines.

Saturday morning we went to the San Diego Wildlife Safari. As you can imagine they had a few exotic species. Word is they have a successful breeding program for white rhinos. However they also had one of the last 5 remaining black rhinos. That one black rhino was past her birthing years so now she is just getting pampered. They did have one baby white rhinoceros that we got to see up close. Sorry no picture of her from me.
Typically Joey takes his first nap at 10:00. On this day there was so much stimulus that he stayed away until we left at 11:30. We decided to go to Slater's 50/50 Burger (50% beef, 50% bacon) while he slept. It was so messy!  While it was delicious I don't think I could eat there again. Each visit may take a year off the end of my life. Sorry no pics of that either. Google it.

After a nap we went to Balboa Park. There were at least 7 different weddings going on, lots of musicians, and a beautiful orchid garden.

Sometimes it's the simple things that stand out. Here we are spending an evening enjoying a coffee - and the weather of course.

Palm desert

One great thing about this trip is that family is 2 hours away. This last weekend we were able to go to Palm Desert to see my grandparents at their beautiful home.

On Saturday we walked around Palm Springs after having In-N-Out for lunch.  After we got back I went to the outlet mall with Grandma where I got a new pair of much-needed shorts.  While we were out Eddy and Grandpa took Joey out for a ride on the electric golf cart and Joey hated every minute of it.  They had to turn around after 1/4 mile.   That night we played Mexican Train once again then turned in for the night.  Sunday morning Grandpa took us to a great church service at Destiny Fellowship while Grandma watched Joey at home; and just before taking off back to San Diego we all had an amazing brunch at Don & Sweet Sues - best diner around!.  We had a nice time and Joey loved spending time with grandma and grandpa.

Today, Monday, Eddy had to go to Oceanside for some training - so Joey and I took advantage of that and hit the beach!  I was able to meet up with my lovely friend Ashlee Craig to enjoy the sun!  Joey loved the sand and ate much of it.  I love beaches so sitting in the sand and playing with Joey for a couple hours was just what I wanted.

We just got home, gave Joey a bath, got all the sand out of his crack and now I'm going to Home Foods for some supplies!

Hope everyone is enjoying their weeks. I'd say this Monday wasn't so bad. Lots of smiles and sun.

The Eddy's using a selfie stick.
While the girls shop...
Grandpa of course won but I had a really good streak.

Finally found a good coffee shop in San Diego!

First week in San Diego

Spent our first full week in San Diego and while it's been really fun it's definitely had it's ups and downs.

Our hotel is great. Free breakfast and every Tuesday and Thursday they do a little get together with drinks. The staff is awesome and it's in a great location 7 minutes from the zoo and 20 minutes from the beach. Not bad.😎

Joey is still trying to get used to the new routine which means we've had a few rough nights of waking up every hour and a couple rough days but overall he's been doing really good. He loves the zoo!   We've been spending 2 hours at a time there and it's been perfect. He loves flamingos and any animal that's on the move (easier for him to spot)

Eddy's started working and that hasn't been the easiest start up but they're getting it.

Overall things are going good. We're getting used to our surroundings and I'm looking forward to exploring some more.

This weekend we're off to see my grandparents in beautiful Palm Springs. Can't wait to spend time with family!

That's all for now. Enjoy the pictures below (we know that's why you're here) 😉

SoCal family time

It's almost been a whole week and Southern California has been treating us well!

Between seeing Eddy's Mom, Lola (grandma), sisters, nieces and nephews we've had a lot of family time and boy has it been wonderful!

We've had the pleasure of staying at Eddy's sister, Davy's house all week and she is one of the most hospitable people I know. Seriously. And she's a good cook too!

Joey has been getting used to not being in his familiar place. He's been watching his nieces a lot trying to learn. Playing with the abundance of toys around the house and pushing stuff all over.

Eddy has had the interesting task of finding us a place to stay in San Diego. That was a lot of work but he finally found a good hotel that wasn't outrageously priced. He did good. We leave for San Diego tomorrow and I'm gonna miss being around family but am excited to take Joey to the zoo and beach.

Well... That's enough for now. Our next post will include lots of zoo picture but here are the pictures from this last week. Enjoy!

Photo credit to Jared! He took these two adorable photos.
