Weekend update 3

Work, Sickness and Family.

Eddy has been working a lot more lately – as if that weren’t already possible – so we decided that Joey and I would spend a week with his sister Davy in Yorba Linda. It gave me some much needed adult time and gave Joey some invaluable cousin time.  He is learning a lot by watching his cousins.  His confidence in walking has improved a lot and I wouldn't be surprised to see him running by his birthday next month.  He is also munching down on a lot of new foods.  He loves biting down on an apple, especially when teething.

One of my favorite parts about being in Yorba Linda was walking almost every morning with Joey to get a fresh juice from Nekter.  They are really good and not expensive – if you ever find yourself there I recommend the Toxin Flush.

My least favorite part was the kids getting sick.  While staying at Jason and Davy's house Jolie and Colette caught a fever and both got ear infections.  Joey lasted a little while but eventually it got him too – luckily no ear infection but boy is he grumpy when he's sick. Dealing with uncontrollable crying and a never ending supply of snot is not fun!  He's getting better now but it’s still lingering and so is the attitude.  Hopefully he'll be back to his normal, happy self soon!

I did love spending time at the house over the hotel.  Davy and I spent a good part of the week trying to solicit (Insert shameless plug here) votes for a mountain bike trail fund.  Eddy's brother Ryan is a downhill mountain bike racer and has been instrumental in getting this going.

We've been down 100-200 votes consistently so we need people to help! Check out the link below and vote for EXCHEQUER MOUNTAIN BIKE PARK

Other than that we spent a lot of time with the kids. Davy is like super mom/wife always on her feet getting meals ready and getting stuff done!  What an inspiration.  One thing she can never be called is lazy – that’s for sure.

After the week with family we headed back to our home away from home in San Diego.  Some of Eddy’s family came down south with us.  Maricar, Jared and his girlfriend joined us for a day at the zoo.  The polar bear was especially photogenic that day.  On the second day we went to La Jolla and had the best oatmeal cookies ever along with an amazing sandwich from the Cheese Shop.

Unfortunately Joey is still recovering from sickness so not long into our outing we had to ditch the family and head back to home-base.  He was just not ready for an adventure that day.

While Joey stayed in Eddy kicked me out to go get a much needed pedicure at a place that just opened. Poor girl; my feet were pretty bad from all the walking I've been doing while in flip flops but now they are feeling fresh!

Well that is all for now. Stay tuned for my next update!

Acai bowl from Nekter!

Made Pho for dinner one night.

He loves watching his cousins.

Polar bears!

If you ever find yourself in La Jolla this place has THE best oatmeal cookies and pretty good sandwiches too!

Well time to head back to home base. He was done.

Weekend update 2

Happy Easter everyone.  Out of all the Sundays that we have been gone, this was the Sunday we skipped church.  What is the opposite of a creaster?  This adventure in San Diego has been bittersweet.  We've been away from for a month now and now we're starting to realize the spoils of being in our own home.  While we miss a lot of things about home we've simultaneously been enjoying SoCal.

Joey and I have been getting our money's worth out of the year-long zoo membership.  This past week we saw the gorillas, elephants, pandas, lions and a baby jaguar!  Now that spring is here the zoo has lots of babies which have been fun to see.  Old Town San Diego has also been a real treat.  We're living in the town of Hillcrest so we're right in between Old Town and the zoo.  The weather has been "cool" lately which means no beach.  We do hope to catch a Padres game here while the Giants are in town.  Go Giants!  Unfortunately they're here on opening day which is already sold out.

Weekends can't come soon enough because I get to spend more time with Eddy and his family.  During the week it is just Joey and I on our own adventures - which can get a little tiring sometimes - but we make it fun.  Last weekend we went to Yorba Linda to spend time with Eddy's sisters.  It was especially nice celebrating the 2nd birthday of our niece Colette.  Between the pool, bounce-house jungle and loads of family it was a great weekend that I didn't want to end.  The only bummer was that Eddy had to bring work with him and miss out on some of the pool time.

We're back in San Diego for another week and again getting adjusted.  Joey's had a rough few days - between getting his first splinter and his 7th tooth the poor guy has been a grump - but he'll get through and'll be chomping corn on the cob in no time!  He already eats an impressive amount of solid foods.
